Become a Massachusetts Ambassador
The
Massachusetts
Ambassadors are a
network of
executives
throughout
Massachusetts who
serve as peer
contacts for
companies evaluating
Massachusetts as an
expansion location.
Frequently
asked questions
about the
Massachusetts
Ambassadors
What
kind of time
commitment will be
expected?
No
specific time
commitment is
expected or
required. The time
commitment will be
entirely determined
by the Ambassador’s
schedule,
availability, and
interests.
What
do Ambassadors do?
Sample
activities can
include being
available for a
phone call;
providing a letter
about the
Massachusetts
business climate to
a company
considering
relocating here;
having lunch with a
visiting executive
from overseas;
promoting
Massachusetts at a
trade show at which
the Ambassador’s
company has a
presence; or hosting
a corporate dinner
for visiting alumni
at a local college
graduation.
How
are opportunities be
brought to the
attention of an
Ambassador?
The
Massachusetts
Alliance for
Economic Development
(MAED), a private,
non-profit entity
that provides
information services
to companies
considering
expanding within or
relocating to
Massachusetts, staffs the program.
MAED matches the
information needs of
interested
businesses with the
expressed interests,
expertise, and
schedules of the
Ambassadors.
Is
the chief executive
the only individual
within the company
who can perform
Ambassadorial roles?
No.
While the chief
executive is the
named Ambassador,
the Ambassador may
select a designee to
perform a particular
function - to serve
as a resource, for
example, on a
community’s
attitude toward
permitting a new
facility. Through an
Ambassador-designated
contact, MAED seeks to match the
appropriate
individuals within
the Ambassador’s
organization with
specific
opportunities as
they arise.
With
the labor market so
tight, isn’t it
against my company’s
self-interest to
serve as Ambassador?
First,
Ambassadors have the
opportunity to
choose whether to
participate on a
case-by-case basis.
Second, an effort
will be made to link
Ambassadors with
appropriate matches
- a supplier and
manufacturer in the
same industry, for
example. Most
important, in the
long run, the state’s
economic vitality
affects every
company within the
state. Business goes
where business
grows. A critical
mass of companies in
key industries is
necessary to attract
and keep the best
and brightest talent
right here in
Massachusetts.
What
benefits will I get
from serving as an
Ambassador?
Ambassadors
are part of a
communications
network that will
ensure that each
member receives
selected
publications, news,
and event listings
of interest to
senior executives
doing business in
Massachusetts;
access to news on
business expansions
within the state;
and networking
opportunities
through special
events planned for
Ambassadors.
Ambassador companies
receive broad
recognition as
leaders in the
economic development
of Massachusetts.
